Growing up I helped plant the family vineyard in the early days of Finger Lakes farm wineries. After exploring other wine regions around the world, I've returned home to make my own style of wine in this unique place of lake-cooled vineyards and rich glacial soils.
I focus on careful production of small batches of wines, drawing on my variety of experiences and using both modern and traditional techniques. My aim is to make elegant wines from grape varietals that grow well in the cool climate of the Finger Lakes. In addition to the varietal name, each wine is also given a unique name to reflect ideas of discovery, travel, bonds of family and friendship, and connection to home and the land.
This wine is named Convivial after the camaraderie and bonds made in the company of friends and family.
This Grüner Veltliner is medium dry with aromas of lime, lemon, and tropical fruit, with a lingering smooth finish of creamy vanilla.
An Open Door may let you take your first step to explore the world, or receive friends and family into your home.
This unoaked Chardonnay is dry with intense fruit aromas and a taste of lemon and honey, with a balance of crispness and smoothness.
Drinking new wines is like exploring the world, and so this wine is named Wanderlust after the desire to discover new lands.
This medium dry Riesling has aromas of honeydew melon and a taste of citrus, with a pleasant balance of crisp acidity and smooth finish.
I have had hit or miss experiences with rieslings in the US and New York State in the past and therefore have steered away from rieslings. Mark's two rieslings - Trilium and Wanderlust - have changed my mind. They are as good or better than some of the fine rieslings I have had in Alsace or Germany. I served both at a New Year's Eve dinner and they were the hit of the night. Right out of the gate, I believe he is a fantastic addition to our region's winemaking and I look forward to whatever Mark produces in the future.
Great stuff! Keep up the good work Mark!
Had a dinner party over the winter holidays and the wine was a perfect fit. Light, fresh and bright... my only wish was that I was drinking during summer. I'll just have to order another round.
Mark Wiltberger is far from a novice vintner. For decades he has patiently learned his trade and so his first offerings deliver at a far higher quality than other new wineries, perhaps any other. We plan to visit the winery this summer and look forward to tasting more wines throughout the year. About half of our first shipment went to friends as gifts, so we may need to reorder soon.
The first vintage from Mark T. Wiltberger winery on Keuka Lake is everything one could ask for in white wines - beautiful bouquet and smooth flavors with a satisfying finish. If you like Chardonnay, Riesling, or Gruner Veltliner these wines are for you. Thumbs up to Mark.
Excellent wine and service. Count me as a dedicated new customer!
This elegant full bodied wine is an excellent match for oysters.
